The Hospital Research Laboratory at Dudley Road Hospital in Birmingham recently released an assessment of a decontamination procedure for the Hygienius® hot water hand wash unit.*
ObjectiveThe report stated that the objective was
"To devise and evaluate an effective disinfection procedure for the Hygienius Hand Wash Unit."
The report stated that "Upon installation of the Hygienius Hand Wash Unit, it is recommended that the unit be disinfected daily with 500 ppm chlorine for 5 minutes to remove any residual contamination that occurred during storage.
"Thereafter, the results of the tests carried out suggest that for routine disinfection, 500ppm chlorine for 5 minutes once every other day in these tests appears to be sufficient to maintain a negligible level of contamination.
"If the unit is not used for an extended period of time, it may be necessary to resume daily disinfection for the first few days of its reuse."
"The results of these tests suggest that for routine disinfection, 500ppm chlorine with a 5 minute contact time once every other day is sufficient to maintain a negligible level of contamination."
The laboratory holds full CPA (UK) accreditation status for NHS Trusts.
