Teal, makers of Kiddiwash warm water hand wash units for preschool and nurseries will be supplying hand washing equipment for the "Golden Poo Awards".
In the developing world 80% of disease is due to poor sanitation; a child dies every 15 seconds from diseases associated with inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene (statistics from The Human Waste Report, WaterAid and TearFund 02).
Poo Productions (PooP), in association with the London International Animation Festival (LIAF) , London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and the Global Handwashing Day coalition launch a competition for short animation films, which tackle the serious issues of hygiene and sanitation in an engaging and thought-provoking way.
The winning films will form part of a global awareness-raising campaign in association with the Global Handwashing Day coalition (including the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Health Protection Agency, DFID, Dew Point, WHO, UNICEF, WaterAid, Pump Aid, Unilever, P & G, GSK) to publicize the importance of good hygiene practice and adequate sanitation.
Expect an intriguing programme of films that are:
hard-hitting, edgy, direct
surreal, oblique, tender
comic, irreverent, prophetic
poetic, profound, thought provoking
cosmic, mythological, abstract
factual, spoof, public information.
Award presentations and screenings will take place at two London events – the LIAF festival (Sept 09) and the "Golden Poo Awards" on Global Handwashing Day (15.10.09). A second Singapore-based "Golden Poo Awards" is planned by the World Toilet Organization for World Toilet Day.
