Andrew Lansley, in his first speech as the new Health Secretary, pulled no punches when beginning the war on hospital superbugs.
"I have spent too long with too many people who have lost loved ones to healthcare associated infections not to be determined to act on this," he said during his speech in East London recently.
"There is no tolerable level of preventable infections. The only acceptable strategy is a zero-tolerance strategy."
Mr. Lansley is determined to dramatically reduce the number of deaths caused by MRSA, C.diff and other infections. He wants all hospitals to set "zero tolerance" targets for all such preventable deaths.
